Los Angeles Aftershock News Release

Darwin Carter and Will Burr had a point to prove to themselves, and the pair took it out on the nets at Southwest College Friday night, leading the Aftershock to a hard fought 128-114 win over the SoCal Legends. The pair combined for 50 points and 9 3 point baskets in the win, evening the Aftershock record to 1-1.

Burr and Carter got off to hot starts hitting early three point baskets and giving LA an early 8 point first quarter lead. Chioke Conner came off the LA bench to add a spark with three baskets in 4 minutes, and along with Scott Freymond gave LA a 43-25 first quarter lead.

Stan Fletcher got SoCal going with 9 points in the second period and Kenny Brunner added 5 points to cut into the Aftershock lead. Head Coach Gary Grant kept his charges focused as they cut the lead to 6 points several times in the quarter. Freymond kept the Legends at a distance with his second and third three's of the game, and Carter stayed hot with another three to help LA lead at the break, 60-54.

The third period was a combination of Kenny Brunner and Jimmy Miggins slashing to the basket, and Darwin Carter and Ramel Lloyd scoring at will. Both sides had their moments in a third quarter that was up and down with plenty of offense. Miggins and Brunner both had 6 points while Carter and Lloyd combined for 17 points in the back and forth period. Los Angeles led 89-80 heading into the final quarter.

Brunner almost led the Legends to the road with three early baskets in the fourth period. But it was a technical and ejection in the final period that created the final separation for the two teams. Burr took advantage of the break with 11 fourth quarter points and Nick Sheppard went on a scoring tear with 8 points as the Aftershock increased their lead late and cruised to the win. Giuliana Mendiola played in the third period and was scoreless for Los Angeles. Carter led all scorers with 28 points, while Burr had 22. Lloyd added 16 while Sheppard chipped in the 15. Dion Bailey and Scot Freymond finished with double figures for LA. Brunner led the Legends with 21 points, while Miggins added 15. Fletcher, Cody Pearson, Ricky Maiden and Zareh Avedian all finished with double figures for the Legends.

Los Angeles will have a rematch with Orange County Saturday at 7pm at LA College Southwest. The game can be heard at www.laaftershock.com. For tickets, call (714) 470-1122.
