After an Early Lead, Dirt Dawgs fall to Pittsfield

The Dirt Dawgs home opener was full of action. Both Pitchers started off well, neither allowing a run through the first two innings. The Suns were the first to strike. They did so in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Rob McLam hit a stand up triple to score JJ Eleser who was hit by a pitch. In the bottom of the inning the Dirt Dawgs responded. Shane Keddy singled in a run, setting up runners on first and second for Vin Teixeria. Teixeria took advantage of the situation, hitting a three run homerun for a 4-1 lead. The Suns responded, hitting back-to-back solo homeruns in the top of the 4th, cutting the lead to run. In the bottom of the inning, the Dirt Dawgs scored what proved to be their final run, thanks to a sacrifice groundout from Ysander Figueroa.

It was the 8th inning that proved to be full of excitement. Suns' Jimmy Ricoy started off the inning with a homerun on the first pitch he saw. Then Steve Dill walked. As Alex Davison approached the plate, the sprinklers went off at Doyle Field, causing a 28 minute "sprinkler delay." As if that wasn't enough excitement, Pittsfield took it to another level when the game resumed. Davidson singled, putting runners on first and second for the Suns. After an out, Rob McLam hit a 3-run home run. Paul Spicher hit a solo homerun in the next at-bat - the Suns 6th home run of the game and second set of back-to-back home runs in the game.

The Dirt Dawgs fell to 0-2 after falling to Pittsfield 13-5. The team will be traveling to Brockton to take on the Rox (0-1) on Saturday. The game will be broadcasted on our website. Join us on Sunday for our ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:00.
