AFL week eight must-see matchup
March 16, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
DALLAS WR/DB WILL PETTIS VS. ORLANDO WR/LB JERRIAN JAMES
WR/DB WILL PETTIS (6-0, 195, Midwestern) and the Eastern Divison leading Dallas Desperados (6-1) travel back to Florida this weekend to take on WR/DB JERRIAN JAMES (6-0, 195, Houston) and the Orlando Predators at HummerField at the TD Waterhouse Centre this Sunday at noon ET on NBC.
Pettis, an integral part of the Dallas offense this season, has recorded 44 receptions for 557 yards and 13 touchdowns. He has been dominant on special teams, returning 39 kicks for 650 yards and has applied strong defensive pressure collecting 17.5 tackles and four interceptions. His offensive output has been aided by Week 7 Offensive Player of the Week, QB CLINT DOLEZEL (6-5, 205, East Texas State), who became only the third player in AFL history to pass for over 700 career touchdowns in a 64-35 win last week over Tampa Bay. He has thrown for 2,077 yards, 45 touchdowns and only three interceptions this season. Aside from Pettis, Dolezel has two other dangerous offensive weapons (both with more than 550 receiving yards) in WR/LB DIALLEO BURKS (6-3, 195, Eastern Kentucky) and OS TERRILL SHAW (6-0, 190, Southern Mississippi) who have caught 16 and 13 touchdowns, respectively.
James has defined Ironman play for the Predators this season, hauling in 32 receptions for 439 yards and seven touchdowns, while returning 35 kicks for 624 yards and amassing 28.5 tackles and one interception on defense (returned for a touchdown). He is joined by DS JEROID JOHNSON (5-9, 186, Oklahoma State) who has made a huge impact on defense with 43.0 tackles and four interceptions (two returned for touchdowns). He is tied for first in the AFL in forced fumbles (4) and leads the League in passes defended (22). The offense would not run as smoothly without FB/LB MARLON MOYE-MOORE (6-1, 250, Maryland) who has rushed for 55 yards and four touchdowns this season.
