
AFL recruits many Roughnecks players for 2005

Odessa, Texas. The Odessa Roughnecks are pleased to announce that more 2004 team members have earned an invitation to the next level as lineman Canary Knight, lineman Jermaine Blakely, lineman John McDermott, and lineman Leon Scott are all reporting to the Arena Football League training camps this week. "We hope it shows prospective players the Odessa Roughnecks is the team to play for to move up the ranks," boasted Head Coach Chris Williams.
A Miami, Florida native, Leon Scott played with Florida A & M before joining the Roughnecks in 2004. As a center and a noseguard Scott was able to knock out 35 tackles and 7sacks. Scott was graded 90% or above in every game as an offensive lineman. His college position also included defensive lineman. This week Scott, 6' and 295lbs will join the AFL's Orlando Predators. The Predators were very pleased with his performance and like that he can play on both sides of the ball. Head Coach Jay Gruden, brother of Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach John Gruden, will conduct training camp this week and make final roster selections soon after to begin the nationally televised 2005 AFL season.
The Austin Wranglers will looking at Jermaine Blakely. As a professional rookie in 2004, Jermaine earned 10 sacks, a selection to the IFL All-Star game, and was named to the 1st Team All IFL by league coaches at the season's end. The 6' 3" Lineman showed his "Big-Guy Athleticism" as well scoring 3 touch downs as a tight end.
John McDermott, 6'5" and 295lbs, who was an Allstar player and named Offensive lineman of the year will begin camp with the New York Dragons this week. John was an outstanding player and also graded 90% in every game as an offensive lineman.
After playing for Alabama, the OL/DL Canary Knight was named Defensive Lineman of the year with the Roughnecks and had 43 tackles with 9 sacks. Knight will be reporting to camp with the Georgia Force. Knight is 6'4 and 275lbs.
