
AFL names players of the week

NEW YORK â Orlando Predators wide receiver/linebacker CORY FLEMING, Philadelphia Soul quarterback TONY GRAZIANI and Colorado Crush wide receiver/defensive back AHMAD HAWKINS have been named U.S. Army Ironman, Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 10 of the 2005 season. The announcement was made live on ESPNews this afternoon.
U.S. ARMY IRONMAN: Fleming (6-3, 215, Tennessee), who is in his ninth season, led the Orlando Predators (6-3) over the Los Angeles Avengers (5-4) in Sunday's 56-55 overtime victory. On offense, the 2004 U.S. Army Ironman of the Year had 11 receptions for 159 yards and four receiving touchdowns. Defensively, he tallied 2.5 total tackles, including a goal-line stop late in the game. This marks the fifth time that the former Volunteer has earned an AFL weekly honor.
OFFENSIVE: Graziani (6-3, 210, Oregon) led the Philadelphia Soul (5-5) over the Columbus Destroyers (1-8) in Sunday's 62-45 victory at Nationwide Arena. The former Duck completed 20-of-29 passes (70.0%) for 261 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions. He had scoring strikes to four different receivers â including three to WR/LB MARCUS KNIGHT â as the Soul extended their team-record winning streak to three. This marks the fourth time the All-Arena performer has earned an AFL weekly honor.
ADT DEFENSIVE: Hawkins (5-10, 188, Virginia) helped lead the Central Division-leading Colorado Crush (7-2) to a 61-40 victory over the Las Vegas Gladiators (5-5) on Sunday at the Pepsi Center. The third-year veteran recorded 4.0 total tackles, two interceptions and a pass breakup as the Crush defense forced four turnovers and extended Colorado's winning streak to six. This marks the first time the former Cavalier has earned an AFL weekly honor.
U.S. Army Ironman of the Week candidates included: Austin's Ira Gooch, Chicago's John Moyer, Colorado's Willis Marshall, Nashville's Darryl Hammond, New York's Josh White, Philadelphia's Sean Scott, San Jose's James Roe and Tampa Bay's Lynarise Elpheage.
Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Chicago's Henry Douglas, Colorado's Damian Harrell, Las Vegas' Marcus Nash, Nashville's Travis McGriff, New Orleans' Aaron Bailey, Orlando's Jimmy Fryzel, San Jose's Mark Grieb and Tampa Bay's Shane Stafford.
ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Austin's Kelvin Hunter, Chicago's Charles Pauley and Todd Howard, Los Angeles' Greg Hopkins, Nashville's Rupert Grant, Philadelphia's Eddie Moten, San Jose's Joe Jacobs and Tampa Bay's Mike Sutton.
