AFL Names AFL Playoffs Game 1 Players of the Week

LAS VEGAS - The Arena Football League has announced that Washington Valor's quarterback Arvell Nelson and defensive back Fred Obi have been named as the offensive and defensive players of the week for the first games of the AFL Playoffs, respectively.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Nelson (6'5, 230, Texas Southern) completed 26-of-38 passes for 259 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for an additional 22 yards and two touchdowns in the Valor's 57-56 overtime loss to the Albany Empire. Nelson finished the regular season with 129-of-212 passing for 1,509 yards, seven interceptions, and 27 touchdowns. He also had 127 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Obi (6'1, 190, San Diego) compiled 10.0 total tackles and one interception in last week's overtime loss to the Empire. In five games played with the Valor, the three-year veteran finished the 2018 regular season with 17 total tackles, two interceptions, three pass breakups, five passes defended, and one fumble recovery.
