AFL involved in community Thanksgiving activities
November 18, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK â The Thanksgiving holiday is much more than just family, food, friends and football for AFL players and coaches. It's also a time to get involved in their communities. Around the League this Thanksgiving, players, coaches, owners, team staff and their families are giving back to their communities in a myriad of ways.
Tomorrow in Las Vegas, the Gladiators will kickoff their "Coats for the Cold" drive, a community collection for new or slightly-used coats to be given to those less fortunate. Drop boxes will be placed at all Las Vegas City and North Las Vegas Fire Departments and other collection points. On Sunday, combining efforts with the City Mission of Las Vegas, Gladiators' head coach RON JAMES, Gladiator players including WR/LB COCO BLALOCK, members of the Gladiators Community Involvement Board and the Goddesses dance team will serve a Thanksgiving meal to more than 800 low-income Las Vegas families.
Nashville head coach PAT SPERDUTO and Kats players will be delivering toys to a toy drive sponsored by Second Harvest Food Bank on Tuesday, November 23.
On Wednesday, November 24, Los Angeles owner and CEO CASEY WASSERMAN will be on hand with FB/LB LONNIE FORD, DS TRACO RACHAL and several Avengers front office staff serving meals at the Salvation Army Thanksgiving dinner at the Los Angeles Convention Center with all the trimmings for approximately 2,500 homeless and low-income men, women and children in Los Angeles. Avengers DS JERMAINE SMITH, FB/LB JEFF MACREA and public relations coordinator VINCENT TROTTER will be serving holiday meals at Skid Row/Hope Central as part of the Los Angeles Mission annual Thanksgiving event, one of the largest of its type in the country, serving more than 3,500 traditional turkey dinners.
