March 27, 2007 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
CHICAGO - The arenafootball2 league and Limbo 41414 have teamed up on a unique partnership that will provide enhanced awareness and interactivity to fans throughout the af2's eighth season via a season-long series of Limbo Auctions featuring impressive prizes from the league and its teams.
From this Thursday's kickoff all the way to ArenaCup8, fans can win great prizes such as electronics, tickets, trips and money-can't-buy autographed gear by playing Limbo 41414's cutting-edge, interactive 'reverse auction' game, the Limbo Auction, while following all the af2 action.
"The Limbo Auction is an innovative way to engage our fans and promote the league, our teams, and our sponsors," said af2 President Jerry Kurz. "The game we play it in the af2 is all about action, excitement, and intensity, and that's the same kind of experience that Limbo Auctions will bring to our fans through this exciting, season-long program of prizes and promotions."
In addition to allowing the league to build a closer relationship between its member teams and its fans, the season-long Limbo program will offer the fans a chance to compete against each other as they play Limbo Auctions to win great prizes throughout the season.
The prize for the league-wide 'kick-off' Limbo Auction is a 42" Panasonic plasma widescreen HDTV. As with any Limbo Auction, the winner of the HDTV will be the person who holds the lowest unique bid at the time of the af2 Limbo Auction's close, on Friday, April 13, 2007 at precisely 12:00 pm PST/3:00 pm EST.
Fans can get in on the excitement by accessing the Limbo Auctions on www.af2.com and on Limbo 41414's Web site at www.41414.com.
Cell phone users in the United States and Canada can bid on the arenafootball2 Limbo Auctions at any time by sending the keyword ARENA to 41414. As the season progresses, each new Limbo Auction and prize will be announced at af2 games, on participating teams' Web sites, and on the partners' Web sites at www.af2.com and www.41414.com. For more information and complete rules, visit www.41414.com.
"We're excited to offer the af2's growing base of loyal fans the opportunity to 'get into the game' themselves as they follow their favorite players and teams over the course of the upcoming season," said Jonathon Linner, CEO of Limbo 41414. "The interactivity and excitement that are the trademarks of the Limbo Auction make perfect complements to the excitement and intensity that the af2 brings to football. We see this partnership as a great opportunity for us to foster a deeper experience for the af2's current fans, help the league reach new sports fans, and offer real value for the league and its sponsors."
In partnership with Limbo 41414, the af2 and its member teams will offer fans the chance to participate in this exciting interactive sweepstakes and interactive marketing program through each team's Web site, on-field 'dasher board' signage, arena public address messages and other collaborative communications.
How a Limbo Auction Works
The "Limbo Auction" is an entertaining, uniquely engaging innovation in the evolution of interactive sweepstakes, combining the elements of a traditional sweepstakes with a twist on the conventional notion of an auction. In contrast to a traditional auction, the winner of a Limbo Auction is not the highest bidder at the close of the bidding period, but rather the person who has submitted the lowest unique bid at the game's close. Unlike entrants to traditional sweepstakes, 'bidders' in a Limbo Auction are in it to the very end, with the chance to find the lucky lowest unique bid until the moment the Limbo Auction closes. Consequently, Limbo players are encouraged to play early and often, and can submit 'bids', either via text message on their mobile phone, or online through an interactive interface on Limbo and partners' sites. The game's interactivity is further enhanced by feedback in response to every entry ("Bummer! There are already 23 bids of $3.49. Bid again to win the af2 Panasonic HDTV", or "Whoa! Your bid of $5.13 is unique but not low. Try again? Reply with your next bid"). In addition to offering players the chance to win cool "prizes for pennies," Limbo bidders playing via text message from their mobile phones also receive 'Limbo Loot', which they can collect and redeem for great gear, samples, discounts and other offers from Limbo 41414 and its partners.
