ARKANSAS TWISTERS (1-0) AT PEORIA PIRATES (0-1)

FRIDAY, APRIL 9, 2004 - PEORIA CIVIC CENTER (9,772) 8:00 P.M. ET

The Arkansas Twisters travel to Peoria hoping to continue their Week 1 success. Last week The Twisters' started out the season on the right foot with a 48-38 victory over the San Diego Riptide. The Peoria Pirates want to forget about last week's 33-13 loss at Wichita and start the season fresh in their home opener. New Twisters' quarterback KEVIN WILLIAMS had a solid debut throwing for two touchdowns, rushing for 27 yards, and rushing for two more touchdowns. Combined with DARNELL SMALL's 29 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, the Twisters' rushing attack will play a major factor in the game. Peoria's quarterback position is up in the air after starter TROY EDWARDS was pulled for MICHAEL SOUZA in last week's game. Who ever does start at quarterback for the Pirates will need to do better than last weeks output of only 127 total yards. The 127 yards was the lowest in the af2 last week. Former NFL kicker LOUIE AGUIAR looks to make his first field goal in a Pirates' uniform after he missed his two attempts last week of 63 and 64 yards. This is the only meeting of the year between the Twisters and Pirates.

GREEN BAY BLIZZARD (0-0) AT SAN DIEGO RIPTIDE (0-1)

FRIDAY, APRIL 9, 2004 - SAN DIEGO SPORTS ARENA (12,000) 10:00 P.M. ET

After losing last week to the Arkansas Twisters, the San Diego Riptide return to California for their home opener. The Green Bay Blizzard make the trek to San Diego for their first game of the season. Last year in their inaugural season the Blizzard didn't get their first win in franchise history until they beat the Riptide in their ninth game of the season. Both teams feature new head coaches. Former Green Bay Packer Brian Noble takes over for the Blizzard and inventor of the run and shoot offense Mouse Davis takes over for the Riptide. Both coaches are looking for their first af2 wins. After being pulled last week, Riptide quarterback KANE CLAUNCH will need to regain his 2003 form when he threw 56 touchdowns if he wants to stay the starter. Riptide WR/DB RYAN SMITH looks to be a threat to score anytime he touches the ball after scoring three touchdowns in four receptions last week. Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback CHRIS GREISEN will go under center for the Blizzard. This will be the first of two meetings between the Blizzard and Riptide this season. The second will be July, 17 at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
