The Lumberjacks won big Sunday afternoon at Dunn Field in taking 2 out of 3 games from Elmira. The Pioneers finished the homestand with a 4-2 mark and their day record fell to 1-2. Adirondack used a 12 hit attack in front of 1,351 fans on Scout Day in Elmira.
Both teams scored a pair of unearned runs in the 1st inning. Bobby Hill's error at SS set the stage for Eppie Guerrero's rbi single followed by an rbi ground-out by Rodney Clifton. The Pioneers tied it in the bottom of the 1st on 3 Adirondack miscues including 2 on the same play by 1B Lorenzo De La Cruz.
Chad Ward (2-1) shut the door on the Pioneers after that in firing 8ip of 5-hit ball with 0 bb's and 8 K's. He retired 13 out of 14 batters in a stretch from the 3rd through 7th innings.
Garrett Larkin's solo HR in the top of the 3rd off Justin Stine (0-3) gave the Lumberjacks the lead for good. Adirondack went onto score 3 runs on 5 hits in the 3rd inning rally. Later they added single tallies in the 5th, 6th and 7th frames. Stine allowed 6 runs, 4 earned in 5.1ip allowing 9 hits. Jordan Griswold gave up an earned run in 1.2ip and Kenji Iwahara closed out the game with 2ip of shutout relief.
Adirondack manager Kash Beauchamp was ejected in the 2nd inning arguing a caught stealing call at second base. Elmira RF Rod Smith was ejected in the 8th arguing a strike three call.
Elmira is now for the best record in the league with Quebec, both at 10-6. The Pioneers are 8-3 in their last 11 contests. Adirondack improved to 8-7 on the season and has now won 6 of their last 7.
The Pioneers hit the road for 7 straight beginning with the 1st of a 3-game series at Albany-Colonie Monday night at 7:05.
