ANAHEIM, CA -- The Angels last week requested unconditional release waivers on infielder Adam Riggs.  This announcement was made by club Vice President/General Manager Bill Stoneman.  INF Zach Sorensen signed a one-year minor league contract with the Angels for the 2005 season and accepted an invitation to the Angels' major league spring training next year.   Riggs, 31, spent much of the 2004 season at Triple-A Salt Lake.  He led the Stingers in several offensive categories last season, including a .331 (149/450) batting average, 104 runs scored, 33 doubles, eight triples, 29 home runs and 90 RBI in 112 games with the Stingers.  Riggs ranked second in the Pacific Coast League with 70 extra base hits and ranked third in the PCL MVP voting.  Riggs set the single season Salt Lake franchise record with a .633 slugging percentage in 2004 and was named to the 2004 All-PCL team as an outfielder.  He appeared in 16 games during two stints with the Angels this season, batting .194 (7/36) with two runs scored, three doubles and three RBI.  Riggs played in two games of the Division Series vs. Boston, finishing 0-for-1 in one pinch-hit appearance.   A native of Steubenville, OH, Riggs owns a .216 (33/153) lifetime average with 18 runs scored, nine doubles, a triple, three home runs and 10 RBI in 61 games.  He has appeared in the major leagues with Los Angeles (1997), San Diego (2001) and Anaheim (2003-04).  Originally selected by Los Angeles in the 22nd round of the 1994 free agent draft, Riggs was acquired by the Angels as a minor league free agent, Jan. 22, 2003.   Sorensen, 27, became the first Salt Lake City native in franchise history to play for the Salt Lake Stingers/Buzz.  Zach led the 2004 Stingers with 22 stolen bases, 45 walks and six sacrifice bunts.  He was second on the team with a .309 batting average (111-for-359—minimum of 386 plate appearances) with 73 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, three home runs and 37 RBI in 95 games for Salt Lake.  Zach was signed by the Angels in May and joined the Stingers on May 22, 2004 from the double-A Akron Aeros in the Cleveland Indians' organization.  He was originally selected in the second round of the 1998 draft by the Cleveland Indians and appeared in the major leagues with the Tribe in 2003.
