Evansville BlueCats News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats are pleased to announce that defensive back Tarron Acuff has been honored by the league as the UIF Special Teams Player of the Week "Honorable Mention" for his performance last week against the Omaha Beef. Acuff is a starting defensive back for the BlueCats and has been serving as the holder on field goal and extra point attempts for the BlueCats on special teams. This week marks the first time in UIF history that a holder for place kicks has been recognized in the weekly Special Teams award for an outstanding performance on the field.

Last week in Omaha, Acuff was the holder for BlueCats kicker Daniel Woods, who connected from 29 yards on his only field goal attempt of the night, and converted 1 of 2 on his extra point attempts. Acuff completed the first pass attempt of his career to running back Michael Cosey on a fake field goal in the 2nd quarter. Cosey took the pass and ran around the left side for 19 yards and nearly scored on the play. Acuff also recovered a bad snap on an extra point attempt, preventing the Beef from an opportunity to advance the ball for a defensive two-point conversion.

As one of the BlueCats starting defensive backs, Acuff also made 3 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss, and one pass break up against Omaha.

Tarron is currently in his third season with the BlueCats and ranks among the team's all-time leaders in several defensive categories. He ranks #4 in total tackles with 94 in his career and sits #4 all-time in games played. He's also the all-time career leader in interception return yards and is tied for the career lead in fumble return yards.

Acuff is originally from nearby Mount Vernon, Indiana, where he was a multi-sport athlete in high school, earning All-Big 8 conference honors in 3 sports. In 1998 he led the state of Indiana in stolen bases and played in the North-South baseball All-Star game. He went on to play football and baseball at the University of Indianapolis earning All-Conference honors at the collegiate level in both sports, including being named an All-American in baseball. He played in the Division 2 World Series and briefly played baseball professionally with the Evansville Otters and Mid-Missouri Mavericks before making his professional football debut with the Evansville BlueCats in 2005.

Other players receiving league awards for Week 8 were Rock River running back Patrick Hall II (Offensive Player of the Week), Ohio Valley linebacker Jeffery Candler (Defensive Player of the Week), Ohio Valley kick returner Durell Preston (Special Teams Player of the Week), Sioux Falls wide receiver Allen Burrell (Offensive "Honorable Mention"), and Rock River defensive back Blue Aldridge (Defensive "Honorable Mention").

Since the UIF was formed in 2005, no other team in the UIF has had more players earn more Player of the Week awards than the Evansville BlueCats.
