Alexandria Aces News Release

Alexandria, LA; June 13, 2006 - The Alexandria Aces topped the .500 mark for the first time since May 18 with a 6-3 win over the first-place Edinburg Coyotes at Bringhurst Field Tuesday.

Righthander Santo Hernandez worked 7.2 strong innings as the Aces improved to 13-12 on the season, their best record since being 2-1. Edinburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead, however, in the second inning, keyed by a double from Eli Albertson. An error and singles by Garvi Arias and Evan Cherry produced the runs for the Coyotes.

Alexandria responded by scoring three runs in the third inning to take the lead for good against lefthander Bric Steed (2-1). After a one-out walk to Marcus Lewis and a single by Keto Anderson set the table, Trey Beamon delivered a two-out double off the right-center field wall to tie the game. Josh Tranum followed with a single to left field to score Tranum and make it a 3-2 game.

The Aces extended their lead in the fifth inning, as a two-out bloop double by Adam Bonner drove in Cleatus Davidson and Beamon, who was 2-for-4, to make it 5-2. That was more than enough for Hernandez (4-0), who did not allow a hit after the second inning and retired 11 consecutive hitters between the fourth and the eighth innings. Edinburg did get a run in the eighth when Jermy Acey singled against Luis Rodriguez, but Alexandria got one back in the bottom of the eighth on a bases-loaded walk to Kevin Griffin. Curt Borland pitched the ninth for his first save.

The series continues tomorrow morning at 10:35 a.m., with Edinburg righthander Andy Noonan facing Aces righty Donnie Bridges. For more information, call 473-ACES or log on to www.myacesbaseball.com.
