Brooklyn, NY -- The Brooklyn Aces Hockey Team (Eastern Professional Hockey League) and the American Cancer Society, Brooklyn Regional Office, today announced they are teaming up to Take A Shot Against Cancer.
The Aces, Brooklyn's professional hockey team playing its first season at Aviator Sports Complex, will make two home games, Saturday, November 15, 2008 and Saturday, January 17, 2009 - (game times for both are 7:30 pm), special Take A Shot Against Cancer fundraising nights to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Aces' Business Manager Mike Cerulli & EPHL Vice President, Sales & Marketing Herm Sorcher announced that on November 15th, the Aces will hit the ice in pink jerseys to raise cancer awareness and showing their support for local patients and their families. The jerseys will then be auctioned off, with winning fans receiving their jersey that night in a personal meeting and autograph session with the Aces players.
In addition, an autographed Wayne Gretzky hockey stick, donated by Wonderland Sport Shop of Brooklyn, will be auctioned that evening. Finally, fans will also have the chance to come out onto the ice to Take A Shot at winning Aces merchandise. Proceeds from all fundraising activities, together with a portion of ticket sales from the night's game, will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support.
On January 17th, the Aces will host another Take A Shot Against Cancer game at 7:30 p.m. Also that day in the morning, Aces players and coaches will host a professional hockey clinic for all members of the public. Clinic registration is $40 and will include a ticket to that night's game.
Tamara Ehlin, Director of Corporate Development at the American Cancer Society, said, "In showing their support in the fight against cancer, the Aces join a national network of Coaches Vs. Cancer teams working together to raise awareness and help the American Cancer Society serve more patients and fund research. We are grateful to the Aces for this extraordinary effort. We invite all of Brooklyn to come out and see the great Aces team play and Take A Shot Against Cancer!"
Herm Sorcher added, "Cancer touches us all in some way. We are proud to support the important work of our local American Cancer Society."
