Aces Clinch Regular Season Title

March 13, 2009 - Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL)
Brooklyn Aces News Release

Friday night at the Aviator Arena in Brooklyn, NY, the Aces clinched the EPHL's 2008-2009 Regular Season Crown with a 6-3 victory over the Jersey Rockhoppers. "We are very proud to take home the regular season championship," said Head Coach Chris Firriolo. "It is a real testament to all of the players that have put on an Aces uniform this season. This was a goal that we set out to achieve at the beginning of the year, and we are happy to have reached it, but we still have one more step to go." Brooklyn got the win on Friday night by unleashing their explosive offense. The Aces got on the board first when Chris Holmes took a Dan Carney pass and put it in for his 17th goal of the season. Jersey's Anthony Becker tied things up less than a minute later on a pass from Drew Sanders. Midway through the period, BJ Kuper put a wrister past Jersey goalie Nick Niedert to give the Aces the lead, and they never looked back. Kyle McCullough added another goal later in the first and Brooklyn took a 3-1 lead into the intermission.

In the second period, the Aces showed off their defensive skills as well, allowing just 10 shots on net and surrendering no goals in the period. In the third, Jesse Felten put the game away by taking a loose puck in front of the net and flipping it backwards over Niedert's right shoulder for the goal. "It was nice to clinch the regular season on our home ice," said Captain Rob Miller. "But we don't have much time to rest, the second season starts next week."

Miller was of course referring to the EPHL Finals, which will take place in Brooklyn March 26,27, and 28 (if necessary).

The Aces are home again tomorrow night at 7:30pm against the Hudson Valley Bears at the Aviator Arena. The Aces will be hosting a Kids Hockey Clinic from 5:30-6:30pm. For more information or to order tickets or sign up for the clinic call the Aces Ticket Office at 732-267-7340
