Academy Grad Moguel Strikes New Multi-Year Deal with LouCity
February 8, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville City FC and midfielder Carlos Moguel Jr. have agreed to a new multi-year contract entering the 2023 season, the club announced Wednesday.
Terms of the deal, which is pending league and federation approval, were not disclosed.
A local LouCity Academy graduate, Moguel saw his role gradually grow throughout the 2022 season as he made 16 appearances. They included a USL Championship Eastern Conference Semifinal victory over Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC when Moguel converted the game-clinching penalty kick.
"I have a habit of saying we're not signing academy players just for the sake of it. We expect to see them contribute, and Carlos is a walking example of that," said LouCity's head coach, Danny Cruz. "Carlos has delivered in moments big and small already as a young professional, and we look forward to seeing his part in helping us reach our goals this season."
Moguel signed his first professional deal in September of 2021, following brothers Elijah and Josh Wynder out of City's youth system. Prior to turning pro, Moguel attended Martha Layne Collins High School in Shelbyville, Ky.,, where he was a Courier Journal All-Area nominee and honorable mention to the All-State list.
"This is something I've been looking forward to, especially being from here," Moguel said of signing his new contract. "I'm very excited to get it done and go on to accomplish some big things. I want to make my mark here. I haven't won the championship yet, so that's the goal this year for the guys and me."
LouCity - fresh off winning last year's Eastern Conference title - is underway with its 2023 preseason. The club opens its USL Championship campaign on March 11 at Orange County SC and hosts El Paso in its March 25 home opener.
Season, group and premium tickets for the 2023 season are on sale now by visiting LouCity.com/tickets or calling (502) LOU-CITY during regular business hours. Single game tickets go on sale Feb. 28.
