AC St. Louis News Release
ST. LOUIS, MO (August 17, 2010) - AC St. Louis, playing in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, announced the club has signed midfielder Michael Videira to a contract for the remainder of the 2010 season. Videira, 24, was most recently with the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer. Videira appeared 16 times for New England in 2009. Prior to joining the Revolution Videira signed with Hamilton Academical of the Scottish Premier League. Videira is a 2008 graduate of Duke University where he was a three-time MAC-Hermann Award finalist.
"I am pretty excited about this, and I know we can still make a run at the playoffs here," said Videira following his first training session with the club. "I hope just to bring a sense of professionalism and urgency to the team. I think we have a good team. We just need to realize our strengths, and be consistent throughout the rest of the season."
"Mike is a good center midfield player who has very good technical ability, has good passing skills, and is a good worker who will help us defend," stated AC St. Louis Head Coach Dale Schilly. "He has a couple years of experience in the MLS, and that experience alone will help us."
Videira made 12 regular season appearances for New England last season, and 16 overall appearances. He made his MLS debut on April 25 against Real Salt Lake, and he made his first start on May 3 against Houston. Videira is a former All-ACC honoree, as well as an All-American selection while at Duke.
AC St. Louis is next in action on Friday night, August 20, against the Puerto Rico Islanders. Tickets are still available. Call 1-888-STL-GOAL or visit www.ac-stlouis.com.
