Aaron Susi Named Sockers Player of the Week

Sockers forward Aaron Susi was named the opening recipient of the San Diego Sockers player of the week award. Susi was chosen by a vote of San Diego front office staff and media attending the Sockers' 10-6 victory over the California Cougars on Sunday, November 14th.
Susi, 35, scored two goals and added an assist in the Sockers' season-opening win at Stockton Arena. Haunting his former team, Susi assisted on Chiky Luna's second power-play goal of the game late in the first quarter for a 4-0 Sockers lead. During San Diego's five goal outburst in the third quarter, Susi finished a pass from veteran midfielder Paul Wright for his first goal of the year, beating Cougars' goalie Jesus Molina with a crossing shot. Later, when California made a run to close the score to 9-6, Susi's brilliant goal with 2:12 remaining in the fourth quarter put any doubt in the result to rest.
"Aaron and Paul Wright are so smart, so much experience, they make it easy for us on the power play," said Luna after Sunday's game.
Susi edged out midfielder Chiky Luna (two goals, one assist) and goalkeeper Riley Swift (win, 16 saves) for the Sockers' opening week honors.
The Sockers open their PASL-Pro home schedule on Saturday, November 20th when they host the Tacoma Stars at the Del Mar Arena. Game time is scheduled for 6:15pm. The Sockers will hand out free T-shirts commemorating their 11th indoor championship to the first 500 fans in attendance, sponsored by SoccerFanatic. The Sockers will also unveil their 11th championship banner, which will hang from the Del Mar Arena rafters.
