Chattanooga FC News Release
Chattanooga Football Club is proud to recognize Lulu Copeland, Executive Director of the Tennessee-China Network.
Lulu Copeland is a distinguished member of Chattanooga's Asian-American community. As a Chinese immigrant, her experiences and advocacy play a crucial role in celebrating AAPI Heritage Month, highlighting the diverse contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
For Copeland, AAPI Heritage Month is deeply personal. Copeland envisions Chattanooga's celebration of AAPI Month as an opportunity to foster mutual respect and acknowledge the significant role immigrants play in the fabric of American society.
"It means I am one of over 20 million Americans from Asian countries that have adopted this country," said Copeland.
She takes immense pride in her Chinese heritage, which she sees as a wellspring of history, innovation and perseverance. Her rich background, including experiences in Taiwan and the Philippines, has nurtured a broad appreciation for diverse cultures.
"Better understanding of geography, history, and changing cultures makes us all better global citizens."
Copeland's Chattanooga connection
Copeland's path to Chattanooga was shaped by her family's pursuit of educational opportunities in America. After initially settling here due to her uncle's position at TVA, Copeland made the city her home, marrying a local and deeply embedding herself in the community. Her professional life was dedicated to economic and workforce development, and she continues to support Chattanooga's growth through consulting and volunteer work.
Copeland's support for Chattanooga FC is intertwined with her community values. Initially drawn to the club as her son played soccer locally, she deepened her involvement by gifting CFC shares to her family and attending games with the Chattanooga Area Chamber's International Business Council.
As we celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, Copeland's story underscores the rich narratives that Asian-Americans bring to Chattanooga and the nation. Her dedication to heritage, community, and inclusivity exemplifies the profound impact of embracing diversity and engaging actively in one's community.
