A Look Back: Republic FC's Top Moments from 2023

A historic season in 2023 was one to remember for Republic FC. The club celebrated it's 10th season with unique celebrations, recorded a club best 51 regular season goals and secured the Western Conference Regular Season crown. With 2024 right around the corner, have a look at some of the club's top moments from the past year:

Republic FC's history, and how much the club means to the region was on full display August 26 as 20,231 fans packed Hughes Stadium - the site of the first home match in 2014.

Upon entering for Luis Felipe in the 87th minute on October 1, forward Da'vian Kimbrough became the youngest American soccer player to debut in a professional match aged 13 years, 7 months, and 13 days old.

A cross from Rodrigo Lopez found the head of defender Conor Donovan in the first half of the Western Conference Quarterfinal against New Mexico United. The score - Donovan's first of the year - went down as the game winner as Sacramento moved on to the next round before a sellout crowd at Heart Health Park

A dominant 5-0 win over defending Eastern Conference champion Louisville City FC on April 1 solidified the Quails as one of, if not the league's top club early in the season. Scores from Russell Cicerone, Luis Felipe, Jack Gurr and Keko paired with a dominating defensive performance to mark the club's fourth straight unbeaten result.

With the club's victory on April 1, Head Coach Mark Briggs moved into Republic FC lore as his 41st win at the helm of the club marked the most by any manager in the club's ten-year history.

Goalkeeper Danny Vitiello wrapped the 2023 season with a plethora of deserving honors. Following the regular season, he secured the Golden Glove award with 0.83 goals against average, and just a few weeks later, was named the 2023 USL Championship Goalkeeper of the Year.

Against MLS side Colorado Rapids in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32, Republic FC fought back from an early deficit to level the match in the second half. The squad's adoration for their captain - then recovering from injury - shined out as Sebastian Herrera scored the equalizer and embraced Lopez from his pitch-side seat.

On May 13, forward Russell Cicerone etched his name into club history with his second career hat trick as Sacramento stayed undefeated to open the 2023 USL Championship season.

A thrilling win on October 7 at Rio Grande Valley FC secured Sacramento the top spot in the Western Conference for just the second time in club history. Playing to their namesake, the Indomitable Club fought back from two deficits to secure all three points.
