Dayton Silverbacks News Release

The Miami Valley Silverbacks got an early Christmas present with the signing of former Ohio State standout Maurice Lee.

Lee, 5'9", 180, was a part of the Buckeyes' National Championship team in 2002 and played for the Silverbacks in 2006.

As a part of the Silverbacks, Lee was a force throughout the league, breaking many records. Lee broke the league's single game record for receptions, yards, and TD receptions. Maurice had 15 catches for 191 yards and 6 TD's. Later that season he broke his own records with 17 catches for 197 yards and 7 TD's. Lee finished the seasonwith 90 catches for 1,285 yards and 29 TD's and was voted to the All-Star Team.

In 2005, Lee played for the Dayton Warbirds, leading the team and league in all-purpose yards as the Warbirds made the playoffs. Last season, Lee was voted to the All-Star team as a part of the Canton Legends, finishing with 82 catches for 1,132 yards and 25 TDs.

His addition continues to add firepower to the Silverbacks' receiving corps as they look to reach the playoffs for the second time in team history.

"Maurice is the best wide receiver that has ever played for me," Silverbacks coach Carl Allen said. "He has broken every record in every league that we've played in and yet he is still a humble and coachable player. Maurice is a natural leader on and off the field.

"I would be pleased with signing Maurice alone but putting him with the other wide receivers that we have is very exciting."
