Independence, Missouri - Sept. 20, 2014 - The Missouri Mavericks 5th Annual Fan Fest, sponsored by American Family Insurance, was the stage for three exciting player signing announcements as the Mavs re-introduced some familiar faces and welcomed a new one into the Orange Army ahead of the 2014-15 season.
Head Coach Richard Matvichuk was on hand to announce that former Mavs goaltender Mike Clemente will once again be donning a sweater for Missouri, having signed a 2-way contract with the Missouri Mavericks and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.
Clemente spent a majority of the 2013-14 season with the Evansville Icemen of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), maintaining a 2.84 goals against average and a .904 save percentage, also making a few appearances with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL). The fan-favorite goaltender's last season with the Mavs was 2012-13.
The Mavericks also announced the defenseman Eric Meland has been signed to a standard player contract, along with center Ryley Grantham.
Meland, another former Mavericks player, traveled overseas for the 2013-14 season, racking up 7 goals, 15 assists and 18 penalty minutes for Banska Bystrica HC 05 of the Slovak league. His last appearance as a Mav was 2012-13, playing 4 regular season games and 10 post-season games.
Grantham, a 6th round draft pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames, split his 2013-14 season across four leagues, skating for the Springfield Falcons (AHL), the Allen Americans (CHL), the Evansville Icemen (ECHL) and the Toledo Walleye.
