Three More Ink Deals with Steelhawks

Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Bethlehem, PA: The Steelhawks announced today that three more athletes have signed deals to bring their talents to the Lehigh Valley for the 2011 season. Among the signings are an elusive and strong armed Quarterback from the University of Minnesota to go along with a duo of Mercyhurst College standouts with plenty of indoor experience.

Andre Sloan El, a Philadelphia native and graduate of Roman Catholic High School, brings big time play making ability to the Quarterback position. The 6'3" 205 lb. signal caller is a unique talent because he can hurt opponents with his legs, just as easily as with his arm. Signed out of Roman by the University of Minnesota, Sloan El took his game to Emporia State University for his Junior and Senior seasons where in just two years amassed 4,562 total yards, good for 4th in school history. His 34 career touchdowns also rank him among the top 5 in the ESU record books.

"What you're getting in a player like Andre, is the Michael Vick or Donovan McNabb affect of indoor football," stated Executive Vice President Mike Clark. "He is just as dangerous tucking the ball away and scrambling for big yards as he is airing the ball out. It's not easy game planning for a dual threat like that."

Not to be lost in the signing of a Quarterback is the acquisition of two speedy skill players with plenty of indoor experience. Theo Hall and Aaron Haynes join the roster after prolific careers at Mercyhurst College in Northwest Pennsylvania, and a year spent playing for the Erie RiverRats of the AIFA.

Hall, a shut down defensive back, was a 2007 All Conference member and 2008 Pre-Season All-American during his time at Mercyhurst. He finished his collegiate career there with 11 interceptions and was among the leaders in tackles in each of his four years. Not to be outdone on the defensive side of the ball, were Hall's Special Teams abilities. With sub 4.3 speed and a knack for making people miss, he broke the school's all-time record for kick return yards in 2008. After his college eligibility was up, Hall signed on and played in four games with the Erie RiverRats of the AIFA registering 12 tackles and a forced fumble.

Haynes re-unites with his former teammate once again with a reputation for being one of the fastest players on turf. Clocked with a 4.24 40-yard dash time, it hard to ever take Haynes of the field, and in fact he rarely does. Despite his primary position of wide receiver, he has regularly given opponents fits by lining up as a defensive back and kick returner as well. As a member of Erie he often played both ways, and contributed in the return game. That versatility was a major drawing point to Coach Britt and his staff.

"With Theo and Aaron your getting two young men who are pure athletes," he stated. "With their speed, versatility, and willingness and ability to play on Special Teams it thrills me that we were able to scoop them up before anyone else could."

With six players in the fold, Coach Britt and his staff look forward to this Sunday's open tryout to be held at Lehigh University. "As it stands right now, we have six players signed for camp in February," he said. "Per league rules I am allowed to bring in a total of 45 guys to camp, which mean I have 39 spots to fill before then. I am confident that we are going to find a vast amount of local talent this weekend, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the direction this team is headed."

Tryouts will be held this coming Sunday, on the Goodman Athletic campus of Lehigh University. The tryouts begin promptly at 8 a.m. with registration beginning at 7 a.m. Players interested in participating can sign up via the Steelhawks website at www.LVSteelhawks.com. Cost for the event is $60 and includes an official Steelhawks t-shirt. Cost for the event is $65 for the day of the event. Only Cash or Money Order will be accepted the day of the event. Players are reminded that NO CLEATS are allowed to be worn on the field hockey turf, and only flats or turf shoes will be permitted.

An added perk to participants is the Steelhawks relationship with Beyond Sports Network. Players who participate are eligible to sign up through BSN for a player profile which allows them to market themselves to agents, coaches, and professional teams in the IFL, AFL, CFL, UFL, and NFL.
