Lexington Legends News Release

In light of the Houston Astros cancellation of the first two games of their important series with the Chicago Cubs as Hurricane Ike makes its way through the Texas Gulf region, the Lexington (KY) Legends (Astros Single A affiliate, South Atlantic League) have offered to make its home, Applebee's Park, available for the series.

The Astros have pulled to within 3 games of a playoff spot with only 17 to play, having won 14 of their last 15 games. "We want to provide our parent club the opportunity to stay hot on their way to a World Series championship", said Lexington Legends General Manager, Andy Shea. "We are willing to offer our beautiful Applebee's Park to keep the streak going", said Shea.

Legends President Alan Stein said that he had made the offer earlier today, but had not yet heard from the Astros or Major League Baseball. "We just want them to know that we're here if they need us. Having hosted the Roger Clemens rehab assignment in 2006, we are well capable of handling this series", said Stein.

Major League Baseball has been played recently in minor league facilities. The Tampa Bay Rays have played games the past two seasons in the minor league facility in Orlando, Florida.

Stein added, "Most importantly, we salute the Astros and the Houston area leaders for the decisions they have made to evacuate the area in an orderly fashion and keeping the citizens and fans safety as their top priority. Our prayers are with those who are in harm's way."
