Blue Rocks To Ramp Up The Fun In 2008

Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks creative front office has been hard at work during the fall and winter months, busily preparing its fans for an exciting 2008 season. During the fall of 2007, the Blue Rocks hired a professional entertainment consultant firm, Total Sports Entertainment, to polish and enhance the already fun outing that fans have come to expect during a Blue Rocks game. "One of the biggest changes our fans will notice is our focus on entertainment," said marketing director, Mark VanderHaar. "Our goal is to produce each game as a show, so that anyone in the audience will have a great time whether or not they like the game of baseball." Putting on a good show for fans is so important to the Blue Rocks that they have adopted the slogan, "It's Showtime!" for the 2008 season.

Fans will find more of the same great fun, family entertainment they have come to expect at Frawley Stadium. In addition to 12 fireworks nights, fans can expect such favorite national entertainment acts as Reggy! The Purple Party Dude, ZOOperstars!, BirdZerk!, Skyy Dogs USA, in addition to some new ones: Myron Noodleman, The RubberBoy, The Amazing Christopher and his puppets, Cowboys East, and Krazy Karacters. "Three belly laughs per game; that's another goal for the 2008 season," continued VanderHaar. "We want our fans to experience doubled-over in-their-seat laughter at least three times during each visit to Frawley Stadium.

Another new element to the 2008 Blue Rocks season is the implementation of 70 theme nights. Some theme nights are traditional (Education Day during one of our Wednesday day games, Mother's Day, Italian Heritage Night) and others are off-the-wall (Star Trek Appreciation Day, Mullet Night, Hasselhoff Night, and Cheese Steak Appreciation Night, just to name a few). Some nights are self-explanatory and others are meant to pique fans' curiosities. For instance, Hasselhoff Night is a satirical tribute to David Hasselhoff, former star of Knight Rider and Baywatch. fans can expect on-field contests in slow motion, Hasselhoff German music videos played on the RocksVision board, staff equipped with safety floaties, and a booth where fans can hassle someone named Hoff. A suggestion for a chest hair competition may or may not be held that night.

The daily brandings of game days and nights have also changed for the 2008 season (see the attached). Family fun in the SUNdays will include a pre-game parent/child catch on the field as well as a post-game kids run the bases. Bingo Monday is a new addition with a predetermined amount of Baseball Bingo cards being handed out to fans as they enter the gates. Tworrific Tuesday continues with 2 box seats, 2 sodas, 2 hot dogs, 2 baseballs and 2 scorecards for $22. Wednesdays are Kid's Character Nights. Thursdays are Throwback Thursdays when the Blue Rocks will turn back the clock to highlight a past era or decade. Fridays are Fun Time Fridays and Saturdays are Super Saturdays. Please note that all theme nights are subject to change and limitations.
