Cleveland Selects Joe Minucci With Top Pick In Dispersal Draft

NEW YORK - Cleveland acquired four additional draft picks via trades with Colorado, Chicago, New York, and Utah for future considerations to select DL JOE MINUCCI (6-3, 298, Delaware) with the top pick and WR OTIS AMEY (5-10, 192, Sacramento St.) with the 11th pick of the dispersal draft.

Minucci recorded 3.5 tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss in seven games in 2007. Now entering his fourth AFL season, Minucci has totaled 48.5 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and nine passes defensed.

Amey ranked fourth amongst rookies in receiving yards (1,035), and fifth in receptions (88).

The Grand Rapids Rampage selected All-Arena First Team DB AHMAD HAWKINS (5-10, 188, Virginia) with the third overall pick and All-Rookie Team WR KENNY HIGGINS (6-1, 187, Toledo) with the 16th selection.

Hawkins, entering his sixth AFL season, tied the single-season interceptions record with 13, while ranking second on the Kats defense with 71.5 tackles. Hawkins has the third-most interceptions over the past two seasons with 17.

National Conference Champion Columbus Destroyers selected 2007 Kicker of the Year MARK LEWIS (5-9, 180, Florida International) with the sixth overall pick.

Lewis ranked second in points by a kicker (155), connected on 15-of-25 FGs (60%), and 110-of-118 PATs, including a season-high of 48 consecutive on his way to his first Kicker of the Year award in only his third AFL season. Lewis currently has the second-most field goals converted over the past two seasons (37).

All undrafted players will become free agents. Free agency officially begins on Monday, October 29, 2007.
