Roanoke Players Set to Dazzle Rescue Mission

Roanoke, Va., January 18 - The Roanoke Dazzle announced today that the entire team and coaching staff will tour the Roanoke Rescue Mission on Thursday, January 19th at 12:00 p.m.
Earlier this season the NBA released their NBA Cares Initiative which translated down to the NBA Development League with the D-League Cares Initiative. These programs are the leagues' global outreach initiatives which are intended to address important social issues, placing a strong emphasis on supporting education, youth and family development and health related causes.
As part of the D-League Cares Initiative the Dazzle players and coaches will get a behind the scenes tour of the facility at the Roanoke Rescue Mission and then visit and eat lunch with the residents and patrons of the Rescue Mission.
"It is always a good experience when you can go and visit with folks that maybe aren't as fortunate as we are," said Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison. "Hopefully we will be able to bring some happiness and sunshine into their days."
Bottom of Form The Dazzle are currently in the middle of a month long eight game road trip and will next return home on Friday, January 27 to take on the Fayetteville Patriots at the Roanoke Civic Center with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. This will be the first chance for fans to see new additions D'or Fischer and former Virginia Tech standout Bryant Matthews suit up for the Dazzle.
The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).
The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-seven (37) players have been called up to the NBA on 51 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
