Carolina Courage News Release

Morrisville, NC (March 24, 2003) - The defending WUSA Champion Carolina Courage reduced its training camp roster on Monday, assigning 16 contracted players to the active roster and two more to the reserve roster in advance of the April 5 opening of the WUSA season. All WUSA teams were required to reduce their rosters to 16 active players plus two reserves as of 5 p.m. today.

The Courage roster includes 13 members of its 2002 Championship squad, plus Breanna Boyd, Carolina's first round draft pick, Meghann Burke, the team's second round draft choice, and Danielle Borgman, a former UNC All-American who played last season for the San Jose CyberRays.

The Courage named Kelsey Carlson, a midfielder from Stanford, and Kate Gordon, a speedy forward from Marquette, to its reserve roster. In order to pare its preseason roster, the Courage waived forward Katie Barnes and released from camp Rebekah McDowell, Sherrill Kester, Stacy Roeck, Heather Ragsdale, and Meredith Flaherty. Teams may add up to two developmental players to their rosters by April 1.

The Courage will open its 2003 campaign April 5 at SAS Stadium in Cary, NC against Mia Hamm and the Washington Freedom. Season seats start at just $95 and can be purchased by calling the Carolina Courage office at (919) 573-7626 or by visiting online at www.carolinacourage.com.
