66ers Win Game One Over Skyforce 119-109

TULSA, Okla., April 8, 2010 - Four Oklahoma City Thunder assignees combined to score 90 points, grab 19 rebounds and dish out 13 assists in a 119-109 victory for the Tulsa 66ers over the Sioux Falls Skyforce in Game 1 of their first round match up in the 2010 NBA Development League Playoffs. Kyle Weaver scored a game-high 30 points while shooting 10-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-6 from three-point range. DJ White and Mustafa Shakur each scored 21 points, while Byron Mullens added 18.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with four lead changes and three ties. The 66ers trailed by as many as five points with 6:06 remaining, after the Skyforce's Kirk Penney connected on a lay up to move ahead 14-9. Tulsa subsequently went on a 10-4 run to regain the lead at 19-18 after a Weaver jumper with 3:51 left. Greg Stiemsma scored 10 first quarter points, as the Skyforce shot 11-of-19 from the field to take a 27-25 lead at the break. White had nine points for the 66ers in the period, as they shot 8-of-18.

The Skyforce rallied early in the second quarter, behind four points from Nathan Jawai during a 12-1 run that pushed their lead to 39-30 with 8:24 remaining in the first half. The 66ers came back with an 8-2 run of their own capped by two Mullens free throws, and got within 41-38 with 6:25 left. Later in the period, two Weaver three-pointers sparked a 17-6 run that gave Tulsa a 58-52 lead at the half. Shakur scored 10 points in the quarter, as the 66ers shot 64.7 percent (11-17). Leemire Goldwire had seven second quarter points, as the Skyforce shot 56.3 percent (9-16) from the field.

Early in the third quarter, Sioux Falls crawled back to within 59-58 at the 10:56 mark, but a jumper and three-pointer from Mullens sparked a 12-2 run for Tulsa, as they extended to a 71-60 edge with 6:47 to go in the period. Tulsa built as much as a 17-point lead in the quarter, before going into the final stanza ahead 90-78. White scored 10 third quarter points, as the 66ers connected on 13-of-21 attempts, while Penney had six points for the Skyforce who shot 9-of-19.

Weaver scored all of the points during a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter that pushed the 66ers lead to 107-87 with 6:27 to go in the game. Raymond Sykes scored seven points in the period for the Skyforce but the lead was too much to overcome.

Led by the Thunder assignees, the 66ers finished with all five starters and six players total in double-figures scoring. Larry Owens had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Deron Washington added 11 points off the bench.

The Skyforce finished with seven players in double-digit scoring, led by Penney with 16 points. Jawai added 15 points, while Goldwire put in 14. Jared Newson had 13 points and nine boards, David Bailey had 12 points and six assists and Stiemsma added 11 points and seven rebounds. Sykes contributed 10 points for Sioux Falls.

Both teams will travel to Sioux Falls for Game 2 of the series, scheduled for tomorrow at 7 p.m. CDT at the Sioux Falls Arena.
