St. John's Edge News Release

Over the ten days leading up to February 23, 2020, we will highlight some of the greatest moments of Carl English's tenure with the St. John's Edge.

If the game-winner in the Edge's first game in franchise history was the preview, then November 19th, 2017 was the main attraction. Less than 24 hours after he broke the hearts of Storm fans on Prince Edward Island, Carl English delivered one of his most dominant games in an Edge jersey. English was lights out, shooting a stellar 14-21 from the field and 6-11 from the arc for a dominant, 36-point performance.

Back home in St. John's the buzz was growing. The chatter amongst the basketball community in Newfoundland was pushed to a fevered pitch. They didn't know much about the St. John's Edge but they knew the Carl English story.

In his book, 'Chasing A Dream - the Carl English Story', Carl wrote...

"There was a lot of buzz once I signed. I joined the team at a press conference on a Wednesday, and they'd only sold 600 tickets for the opener so far. By Friday, we were almost sold out for our first two games. Everybody knew I was the best basketball player from Newfoundland, but nobody had ever really been able to see me...I was almost like a myth. I'd disappeared and people only ever heard of me. Now they could see me live, at home."

The Hometown Hero was coming home.

Keep watching as the countdown continues tomorrow!

Join us on February 23rd as we celebrate and pay tribute to the career of Newfoundland's own, Carl English. In honour of Carl's retirement, the Edge organization will retire his number 23 and hoist his jersey to the rafters of the Mile One Centre. Tickets can be purchased online at www.mileonecentre.com, by phone at (709)576-7657 or by visiting the Mile One Centre Box Office.
