Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Westfield, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Westfield Starfires by a score of 5-4 on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 9th inning RBI single by TJ Wachter (Fordham).
It was all Westfield Early on in the game who took a 4-0 lead after five innings. Worcester starter Kyle Rizy (Bryant) was pulled from the game after four innings, giving up all four Westfield runs. A combination of Matt Pizzelli (Wheaton), Jared Kapurch (St. Petersburg) and Zander Gilmartin (Middlebury) combined for five scoreless innings in relief.
Worcester finally got on the board in the fifth after a Kosta Drosidis (Anna Maria) sac-fly scored Jake Marquez (Maine). From there, they began to chip away.
Trailing 4-1, the Bravehearts' seventh inning rally got off to an unusual start. After a dropped third strike, Cam Seymour (Southern Maine) was able to advance to first to lead off the inning. After back-to-back walks, Seymour ultimately scored the same way he reached, as he crossed the plate on a passed ball. A Jack Goodman (Pepperdine) single re-loaded the bases and Matt Livingston (Sienna) was walked to bring in a third run. Finally, Sal Grinstead scored on the third passed ball of the inning, tying the game.
In the 9th inning, with two on and two out, Wachter roped a single to left bringing in Drosidis. Gilmartin was able to get the Starfires to go 1-2-3 in the 9th to seal the victory.
Worcester returns home tomorrow to take on the Starfires once again. First pitch will be at 4:00 pm.
