5 Things to Watch Tonight vs. Harrisburg, 1-27
January 27, 2017 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
1. Ryan's Hope
In an effort to kick-start Syracuse's drive for the playoffs, GM Tommy Tanner named Ryan Hall to the position of Head Coach this week. Hall had served as an assistant to Bryan O'Quinn, who will now take on a role as both goalkeeper and part of the club's coaching hierarchy. It will be interesting to see how the team responds to the changes in this must-win match.
2. Huge Hugo
The Heat's recent resurgence can partially be attributed to the fine play of the goalkeeper Hugo Silva. He currently ranks 8th among MASL goalkeepers with a 5.34 goals against average, and he's given up five or fewer goals in four of his last five matches. For Syracuse to emerge from Harrisburg with the win they need, they'll have to find a way past Silva.
3. The Full 60 Minutes
Silver Knights fans know that winning 57 minutes of the game isn't the way to the top of the MASL Eastern Division. It takes a club playing with urgency and desire the full 60 minutes of every match. Lapses in intensity have led to Syracuse losing leads, especially on the road. A lapse can't happen against the Heat if the Silver Knights want to leave Harrisburg with a win.
4. The Hot Foot
The Heat tend to spread their scoring out among many players. Only one member of the Heat, Ricardo Carvahlo, has more than 14 points this season - contrasted to four players for Syracuse over that mark. The Silver Knights need to identify and clamp down on whichever member of the Heat has the hot foot Friday.
5. A New Six?
The Silver Knights find themselves with a new head coach and a veteran goalie now added to the mix. Fans may see different combinations of players on the turf at the start and when the game hits crunch-time. There are a lot of unknowns heading into the match, and there is a lot on the line for both clubs.
