4 in a row! Pioneers sweep Berkshire

The Pioneers delighted a large crowd of 2,077 on Pepsi Kids Day with another pasting of the Berkshire Black Bears. The 11-4 final finishes a first half of the season 6 games to nothing sweep of the head to head series and represents the 3rd time in the last 4 games the Pioneers have scored in double-digits in the runs column.

Berkshire took their first ever lead against Elmira with an unearned in the top of the 1st off Matt Pike (2-0). But the Pioneers explded for 7 runs in the 3rd inning including a 3-run HR by Pedro Quero (4th) while taking advantage of two Berkshire errors and several other defensive lapses.

Eric White's 3-run HR in the 6th closed the gap to 7-4 and the Bears had runners at 2nd and 3rd against releiver Donnie Thomas but 2B Rod Bush made a nice play on a comebacker up the middle to save a couple more runs from scoring and retire the side.

The Pioneers put it away for good in the bottom of the 7th inning with 4 more runs off reliever Jackson Crowther breaking up his league leading 0.00 era. Rafael Alvarez and Osmani Garcia both contributed rbi singles in the rally.

Brian Jones finished the game 0-for-3 with a walk and and an rbi bringing his hitting streak to a close at 12 games. Osmani Garcia, ron Bush and Pedro Quero each had a pair of base-hits as Elmira improved their league leading record to 9-4.

The Pioneers have won 4 straight scoring 39 total runs in the streak (10-5, 8-0, 10-1, 11-4). Elmira has also won 8 of their last 9 games and they are a perfect 3-0 mid-way through their 6-game homestand.

Following a day off Thursday, the Pioneers return to action Friday night on Pizza Hut Pioneers Schedule Magnet night vs. Adirondack at 7:05. Sean Brummet (1-0) is the probable for the Friday game with pitching coach Greg Keagle (2-1) slated to start Saturday night.
