
39 Bulldogs Alumni Still in NHL Playoffs Or at IIHF World Championship

HAMILTON, ONTARIO - Thirty-nine Hamilton Bulldogs alumni are currently competing in the National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoffs or in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship in Minsk, Belarus, including 34 players and five coaches.
Thirty of those alumni are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, 21 of which are currently with the Bulldogs' National Hockey League affiliate, the Montreal Canadiens, including forwards Sven Andrighetto, Mike Blunden, Michael Bournival, David Desharnais, Gabriel Dumont, Brendan Gallagher, Louis Leblanc, Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec, Christian Thomas and Ryan White; defencemen Nathan Beaulieu, Francis Boullion, Davis Drewiske, Greg Pateryn, P.K. Subban and Jarred Tinordi; goaltenders Devan Dubnyk, Carey Price, and Dustin Tokarski; and assistant coach Clement Jodoin. Of the other nine Hamilton alumni still participating in the NHL playoffs, five are players and four are coaches, including forwards Jarret Stoll (Los Angeles Kings), Danny Kristo (New York Rangers) and Benoit Pouliot (New York Rangers); defencemen Francois Beauchemin (Anaheim Ducks) and Danny Syvret (New York Rangers); head coach Claude Julien (Boston Bruins); and assistant coaches Doug Jarvis (Boston Bruins), Daniel Lacroix (New York Rangers) and Geoff Ward (Boston Bruins).
Nine former Bulldogs players are representing seven different countries at the IIHF World Championship, which began on Friday, May 9th and runs until Sunday, May 25th. These players include forwards Mikhail Grabovski, Andrei Kostitsyn and Sergei Kostitsyn (Belarus); forward Jason Chimera (Canada); goaltender Cristobal Huet (France); forward Nate DiCasmirro (Italy); defenceman Yannick Weber (Switzerland); defenceman Magnus Nygren (Sweden); and goaltender Tim Thomas (United States).
Eight former Bulldogs have seen ice time in the NHL's Atlantic Division Final between the Canadiens and Bruins, including Bouillon (2014 playoffs statistics: 6 GP 1-0-1), Bournival (8 GP 0-1-1), Desharnais (9 GP 1-2-3), Gallagher (9 GP 4-3-7), Pacioretty (9 GP 1-3-4), Plekanec (9 GP 3-4-7), Price (9 GP 6-3-1, 2.49 GAA, .915 SV%) and Subban (9 GP 4-8-12). The Bruins' coaching staff includes three former 'Dogs coaches in Julien, Jarvis and Ward, while the Canadiens' coaching staff includes former Hamilton head coach Jodoin. The Bruins currently lead the best-of-seven series, 3-2.
Stoll (11 GP 1-1-2) and Beauchemin (10 GP 0-4-4) are going head-to-head in the NHL's Pacific Division Final between the Kings and Ducks. The best-of-seven series is currently tied, 2-2.
Former Bulldogs forward Pouliot (13 GP 3-5-8) and former 'Dogs coach Lacroix are representing the Rangers as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL's Metropolitan Division Final. The best-of-seven series is currently tied, 3-3.
Andrighetto, Beaulieu, Blunden, Dumont, Drewiske, Dubnyk, Leblanc, Pateryn, Thomas, Tinordi, Tokarski, and White have yet to suit up for the Canadiens in the 2014 playoffs. Kristo and Syvret also haven't skated for the Rangers.
At the World Championship, all teams have completed two games to this point in the tournament. Grabovski (2 GP 0-2-2), Andrei Kostitsyn (1 GP 0-0-0) and Sergei Kostitsyn (2 GP 1-1-2) have Belarus currently tied for fourth in Group B with one win and one loss. Chimera (2 GP 0-0-0) has helped Canada to third in Group A with one win and one overtime loss. Huet (2 GP, 1.93 GAA, .925 SV%) has guided France to sixth in Group A to this point with one overtime win and one loss. DiCasmirro (2 GP 0-1-1) and his Italian National Team are currently tied for fourth in Group A with one win and one loss. Weber (2 GP 0-0-0) and the Swiss are tied for last in Group B at this point with two losses. Nygren (2 GP 0-1-1) has helped Sweden to second place in Group A with one win and one overtime win. Thomas (2 GP, 1.50 GAA, .940 SV%) has backstopped the United States to a first-place tie in Group B with two wins at this point in the tournament.
