1. Red Wolves look to Snag Three Points after Three Consecutive Draws
The Red Wolves play their second of three games this week on Wednesday when they welcome Tormenta FC to CHI Memorial Stadium. The side will feel frustrated after dominating the match against Tucson and only coming away with a point but will welcome a chance to get their first win over Tormenta since August of 2019. Sitting third in the table with only one loss, Manager Jimmy Obleda will be happy with the success his side has had this season, but three frustrating draws in a row will be motivation to improve on the ever-rising standards set for the side this campaign.
Saturday night star forward Ricky Ruiz shined once again for the Red Wolves contributing a brilliant goal and a perfectly weighted assist in the 2-2 draw. Player of the month nominee and fan-voted run-away leader Juan Galindrez added his fifth goal of the season in the match as well, but two late goals saw the Red Wolves drop points in the same fashion they have picked up points all season long.
On Wednesday night the Red Wolves get a second chance to pick up a win over Tormenta FC, who picked up three points at home the last time these sides faced off. Forward Azaad Liadi was on hand to tap in a rebounded effort, and it was enough to hold off the high-intensity Red Wolves in the pouring rain. However, unbeaten at home in the 2021 campaign, the home side will relish the opportunity to get back on track with three massive points ahead of their second away trip of the season to North Texas SC.
2. Sliding Tormenta look to do the Double over the Red Wolves
After a poor start to the season that saw Ian Cameron's Tormenta FC win only one of their first seven matches, the club found life following their win over the Red Wolves. Rattling off four straight wins meant that their standing in the table had improved dramatically, and defensively they looked sound keeping 3 clean sheets in those 4 victories.
Now however, Tormenta looks to be falling back down the other side of the proverbial mountain, only securing a point in their last 3 games. Their last endeavor was welcoming North Carolina FC to Statesboro, where Cameron's side dominated the game accruing sixteen shots to visiting North Carolina's 4. An Achilles heel that has plagued Tormenta all season, their play in the final third once again cost them points. Having played the joint-most matches in the league, Tormenta holds the second worst goals scored record in the league and will be working hard to find consistency in front of goal.
Marco Micaletto has been a bright spot however, ripping off 4 goals so far in the young campaign. In addition, the aforementioned Azaad Liadi leads the way with 3 assists, and Pablo Jara continues to play well in goal with 32 saves already in the young campaign.
3. What to Watch for and What's at Stake Wednesday Night
Both sides look to turn misfortune into 3 points on Wednesday night and continue up the USL League One table. A Win would move the Red Wolves level on points with the top 2 sides, Omaha, and Greenville, while a Tormenta victory would move them into fourth and level on points with Obleda's side, albeit with a significant four games in hand.
The Red Wolves put their unbeaten home record and 5 match unbeaten streak on the line as well, as they look to turn draws into wins at CHI Memorial where they have been brilliant all season long. Wednesday night offers a great atmosphere for USL League One action, with a beautiful weather forecast and the much beloved $2 beer night making its return for the match.
The Action kicks off at 7 PM EST Wednesday, July 14, as your Chattanooga Red Wolves play host to South Georgia Tormenta FC. Join the fun with $2 beer night and come enjoy the Concession of the Match - "The Taco Dog."
