Worcester Sharks News Release
WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr announced today that after the December 18th contest vs. Manchester at 7:05pm at the DCU Center, assistant captain Mike Moore and his teammates will be providing holiday gifts to 20 area children through the "Give Moore for the Holidays" toy drive.
On Friday night, each member of the Sharks will be sponsoring a child who will be attending the game with his or her family free of charge. After the game, each child will be invited to a reception to open gifts with their player sponsor.
Last year, Mike Moore's "Give Moore for the Holidays" toy drive proved to be a huge success. He rallied his teammates to donate to his charity, which resulted in the out-of-pocket purchase of over $3,000 worth of gifts for children from Community HealthLink of Worcester.
"It's so important to give back to the community. My teammates and I enjoy having the opportunity to interact with fans - especially kids - so this event is really special for us," says Moore.
Mike Moore is a second year defenseman and assistant captain for the Worcester Sharks. This Calgary, Alberta native graduated from Princeton University in 2008 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. During his 2008-09 rookie season, Moore was named the Worcester Sharks' American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. His involvement with the community has included taking charge in over 10 "Be a Leader" assemblies reaching over 3,000 students, visiting area hospitals, instructing Worcester Sharks Street Brigades (street hockey clinics), and participating in "Reading is Cool" programs in nearly 20 classrooms.
Worcester hosts the Manchester Monarchs at the DCU Center on Friday, December 18th at 7:05p.m. The game will be shown live on Charter TV3.
Now in their fourth season in Worcester, the Sharks look forward to another exciting season highlighted by the improvements of the ice surface at the DCU Center and the reduction of season ticket prices!
