Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, today announced their exhibition schedule for the 2013-14 season. The team will take on a pair of American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) teams as they prepare for their fourth season of NAHL competition.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines will visit McMorran Arena Friday, September 6 for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Fighting Falcons. The following night, the Fighting Falcons take on the Bulldogs of Adrian College.
Admission to the exhibition game is free for all fans that have purchased a full-season ticket package. All other fans can catch the action for just $3 per game.
The games are sure to give the Fighting Falcons a pair of tough tests less than two weeks before they make the trip to Blaine, Minnesota for the 2013NAHL Showcase.
"Taking on college programs like U of M-Dearborn and Adrian College is a great way to give our players an idea of what it will take to succeed at our level and beyond," said Fighting Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Michael Gershon. "It's a great opportunity for our coaching staff to get a feel for our team before the start of the regular season so we can go into the Showcase having already made some adjustments.
"There are a lot of great players at the ACHA level that for whatever reason slip through the cracks and don't end up with an NCAA commitment right away," Gershon added. "We've had a few players go that route over the past few seasons, and it's a great way for these guys to continue on their career path while getting a great education."
Robert Clouston, who serves as the Head Coach of the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines, has ties to the Blue Water Area, as he had a brief stint with the Port Huron Border Cats in the Colonial Hockey League in the 1997-98 season.
Following their exhibition matchups, the Fighting Falcons will open the regular season in the NAHL Showcase. Port Huron will take on the Austin Bruins, the Minot Minotauros, the Texas Tornado and the Corpus Christi IceRays from September 18 to the 21st. The full 2013-14 regular season schedule is expected to be released later this month.
The Fighting Falcons return to McMorran Arena for their fourth NAHL season this fall. Season ticket packages start at just $175, and the first 25 fans to purchase two or more full season ticket packages will receive a free game-worn Fighting Falcons jersey.
