San Diego Surf Dawgs News Release

SAN DIEGO - Two more components from the 2005 Golden Baseball League Champion San Diego Surf Dawgs will return to the team in 2006; OF Seth Pietsch and RHP Aaron Wilson. Pietsch and Wilson both played key roles in the championship run last season and must do so again if the Dawgs are to contend for the championship in 2006.

Wilson (San Diego, Calif.) was part of the rotation that led the GBL in ERA last season, going 7-3 in 18 starts. His seven wins were good for third best on the team behind Jeffrey Blitstein and Adam Johnson. Even more impressive, Wilson struck out almost a batter an inning (94 K's in 105.2 innings) and allowed less than one hit per inning (95). Batters were mystified by Wilson all season long, only posting a .241 batting average against him. On the season, his strikeout to walk ratio was 2.4:1. In addition to his baseball skills, Wilson was named one of San Diego's hottest singles by San Diego Magazine for the month of April. Wilson's is primed to be one of the leaders of this year's pitching staff.

Seth Pietsch (Grants Pass, Ore.) was part of the Surf Dawgs one-two punch with fellow outfielder Scott Goodman. Pietsch joined Goodman for the team lead in home runs (12) and was second on the team in RBI's (67). His .323 batting average was best on the team and good enough for ninth in the GBL last season. Not only an offensive slugger, Pietsch got it done with the leather, only committing three errors all season while patrolling the outfield.

San Diego begins their title defense at 7:15 p.m. on June 1 in Yuma, Ariz. when they open the season against the Yuma Scorpions at Desert Sun Stadium. The Dawgs first homestand starts on June 5 at Tony Gwynn Stadium versus the same Yuma Scorpions at 7:05 p.m.
