Greenville Groove News Release

Greenville, SC – The 2002 National Basketball Development League (NBDL) Champion Greenville Groove has been allocated 6-7 forward Greg Gray. The former SC State standout will join Jamar McKnight and Greg Lewis as the third allocated Groove player.

The NBDL has allocated three athletes to each of the eight teams in the league thus far in the pre-season. One additional athlete will be allocated to each team in the weeks prior to the start of training camps in early November. All teams in the league will begin training camp with four league allocated athletes. One allocated player must remain on the GrooveÂ’s roster during the entire 2002-2003 season.

“My coaching staff and I are pleased with the addition of Gray to the training camp roster,” says Groove Head Coach Tree Rollins. “He will be a great asset to our camp. He did very well in his two seasons at SC State. I am excited to see first hand what he can do on the court.”

Gray, a native of Los Angeles, attended Santa Ana Community College in California before joining the SC State Bulldog Basketball Team in 2000. While in California, he averaged 19.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.7 steals, and 3.1 steals per game. Gray earned All-Conference Team MVP honors and was on the All-Southern California First Team squad.

Upon joining the Bulldog program Gray proved he could excel at four positions on the court. He saw most of his action as a guard during his first season. In the 2000-2001 season, he averaged 12.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and led the conference with 82 steals.

In his final season with SC State he moved to the forward position. He averaged 14.8 points per game, 5.9 rebounds, and led the team in steals with 63. He was a 2002 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference All Tournament Team member. Gray was also honored as co-MVP during his senior season with the Bulldogs.

The Greenville Groove is set to begin their 2002-2003 season by playing host to the Columbus Riverdragons on Friday, November 15 at the BI-LO Center. The game will begin at 7:00 pm. Groove season passes are now available. Call 864.241.3800 for more information or visit www.greenvillegroove.com.
