ANCHORAGE, AK (May 16, 2005) - The Trenton Titans clinched the National Conference Final against the Alaska Aces and a trip to the Kelly Cup Championship with a 2-0 victory in Game 7 clinching the best-of-seven series.
A sellout crowd of 6,451 at Sullivan Arena saw Rick Kowalsky gave the Titans a 1-0 lead just 2:54 into the contest as he banged the rebound from Les Hagget's slapshot past Aces goaltender Peter Aubry.
Trenton would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission with the help of a shorthanded goal by B.J.Abel. The second-year pro circled around the Alaska net before lifting a wrist shot into the top shelf at 10:16.
The score remained the same through the second stanza despite the Aces holding a 12-6 shot advantage period and the Titans being forced to kill off four Alaska power plays.
In the final period, Allen stopped all 9 shots he faced - 29 for the game - to register his second shutout of this postseason. Trenton's penalty kill finished 6-for-6.
The Titans now return to the Kelly Cup Final for the first time since 2001 where there face off against the American Conference Champion, the Florida Everblades.
The Trenton Titans travel to Florida to face the Everblades for Game 1 of the Kelly Cup Final on Saturday, May 21 at 7:30pm. Check www.trentontitans.com for local broadcast information.
