Peoria Rivermen News Release
PEORIA - The Peoria Rivermen look to build momentum for the post-season as they host a team fighting for a playoff spot in three games this weekend.
The Rivermen lead the Southern Professional Hockey League with a record of 29-13-3 for 61 points as they face the Fayetteville FireAntz on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at 3:05 p.m. at Carver Arena. Fayetteville enters the SPHL weekend in seventh place with a mark of 18-17-7 for 43 points, four points out of a playoff with 14 games remaining. Peoria is 2-2-1 against Fayetteville with the wins coming in the last two meetings on Feb. 14 and 15 in North Carolina.
The Rivermen will be without three skaters who are called up to ECHL clubs and two more due to injuries. Leading goal-scorer Jake Trask was loaned to the Kalamazoo Wings earlier this week. Center Jordan Sims remains on call-up to the Evansville IceMen and defenseman Mike Slowikowski continues his call-up with the Toledo Walleye. Defenseman Christian Weidauer has been placed on the 30-day injured reserve list with an upper body injury while defenseman Richie Zobak remains doubtful for the weekend as he continues to recover from a lower body injury.
The regular Friday and Sunday activities are planned, including a Coca-Cola Finally Friday with two tickets for only $20 and a PJ Star Sunday Family Fun Day including tickets as low as $1 for kids 12 and under, kids meals (hot dog, chips, drink) at $3, a Family Fun Zone before the game in the Great Hall and post-game skate for all ages.
Saturday is Chicago Blackhawks Night as Blackhawks great Bobby Hull will meet Rivermen fans before and during game. The two-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner as the National Hockey League's most valuable player will sign autographs for an hour before the 7:05 p.m. face-off, then again during both intermissions and the second period. To accommodate as many fans as possible, the Rivermen ask that no posed photographs be taken and that fans receive one autograph per person. Thousands of dollars worth of prizes will be given and raffled away, and the Rivermen will change colors for the night with special Blackhawks-themed jerseys to be auctioned after the game.
Rivermen games can be heard inside Carver Arena on 93.7 FM and anywhere online at www.rivermen.net. Games are also available through subscription video at SPHLLive.com.
