Richmond Kickers News Release
Richmond, VA - (Thursday, March 23, 2006) - The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce that former Kickers midfielder Joey Worthen has earned a contract with Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer (MLS).
A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Worthen was one of eight players invited to train with Real Salt Lake last October. Worthen spent two seasons (2004-2005) with the Kickers before becoming a free agent at the conclusion of the 2005 season. Although hampered with injury for most of 2005, he continued to be an offensive threat on the left side of the field, tallying eight goals and three assists in 46 appearances overall with the Kickers.
"We are very glad that Joey has finally signed with MLS and his home team Real Salt Lake," comments Richmond Kickers Head Coach Leigh Cowlishaw. "It has been quite a journey for him but we are proud that once again exemplifies the club's fine tradition of developing players for the next level."
