Prince Albert, Saskatchewan - The Prince Albert Raiders have acquired 19 year-old defenceman Garrett Thiessen from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a conditional 6th round selection in the 2009 Western Hockey League bantam draft.

Theissen, who is from Prince George, is starting his fourth year in the WHL. Originally selected by the Kamloops Blazers in the 6th round of the 2004 Bantam Draft, Thiessen was traded from the Blazers to Prince George prior to the 2006-07 season.

Last season Thiessen appeared in 69 games with the Cougars with 4 assists and 178 minutes in penalties.

"We are pleased to add a character player like Garrett Thiessen who also brings a physical presence to our roster, "commented Raiders General Manager and Head Coach Bruno Campese.

Thiessen is expected to join the Raiders later this week and may be available for their final two pre-season games this weekend as they host the Swift Current Broncos Friday at 7:30 PM at the Art Hauser Centre before traveling to Swift Current Saturday night.

The Raiders now have 29 players on their pre-season roster: 17 forwards, 9 defenceman and 3 goaltenders.
