Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

LINCOLN, NE- Matt Petrone made his dad proud on Father's Day. The RailCats outfielder, who calls his dad every day, hit a go-ahead line drive home run to give his team an important 2-1 victory over the division leading Lincoln Saltdogs.

The 5'6" Petrone made an impact in only his sixth game with the team from the SouthShore. The RailCats were tied with the rival Saltdogs until Petrone led off the 10th inning with a blast over the right field fence. Petrone said it was especially meaningful to him on Father's Day because his dad was the one who first put a bat in his hand and encouraged his career.

The RailCats (15-15) cut the division lead of the Saltdogs (17-13) to just two games and rebounded from a heartbreaking 9-7 loss on Friday to win the series.

Richard Castillo started for the Cats and turned in his second straight quality start in a seven-inning performance. The Venezuelan only allowed one run on four hits and struck out a season-high eight batters.

The bullpen did its job to close down the game by throwing three scoreless frames. Taylor Black didn't give up a hit in two innings and Andy Roberts earned the save.

Jeff McKenzie started for the Saltdogs and danced around some tricky situations to just allow one run in six innings. Stephen Shackleford is charged with the loss after surrendering the Petrone homer.

Brennan Metzger also notched a season-high with four hits in five at bats. Jose Sermo and EJ Devarie added multi-hit games as well.

The RailCats overcame hitting into four double plays and one error. The team's 13 hits were the highest of the road trip.

Gary SouthShore travels to Texas next for a three game series before returning home to the SouthShore. First pitch tomorrow is at 7:05 and coverage will begin at 6:40 on 95.9 WEFM and online at railcatsbaseball.com.
