January 12, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
Milwaukee, WI (Tuesday, January 11, 2005) â The Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that it has signed midfielder Ricardinho for the remainder of the 2004-'05 campaign and a contract for two additional seasons. In order to make room for Ricardinho on the roster, defender Troy Dusosky has been placed on the 15-day injured reserve list because of a knee injury sustained in Saturday night's match against Baltimore.
Ricardo Barros Calvacante, known as Ricardinho, was the Wave's first selection in the January 5 Dispersal Draft. Formerly of the Dallas Sidekicks in 2003-â04, Ricardinho was drafted from the MISL Monterrey team. As a rookie with Dallas, Ricardinho played in 36 games, collecting 13 goals and 23 assists, for 36 points. A seasoned midfielder, he had two successful seasons with the German club Bahlingen of the European Second Division.
The 25-year-old rising star is from Sau Paulo, Brazil and played for the National Indoor Soccer team of Brazil in 2000 that won the International Tournament "Mundialito." He played two seasons with Aviacion of Lima, Peru (1999-2000) and prior to that, was signed in 1999 by Palmeiras of Brazil. The native Brazilian joins four teammates on the Milwaukee Wave also from South America: Johnny Torres (Colombia), Erick Acevedo (Guatemala), Angel Rivillo (Venezuela) and Marcelo Fontana (Argentina).
"Ricardinho will fit in well with our team. He had a great rookie season with the Dallas Sidekicks last year, and we believe his skills will be a great addition to our midfield," said coach Keith Tozer. "While adding Ricardinho is a great strength to our team, we lost a great defender in Troy Dusosky this weekend with a knee injury."
After further medical review, it has been confirmed that Troy Dusosky has suffered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Other than being placed on the 15-day injured reserve list, no decision has been made on his status for the remainder of the season.
The Milwaukee Wave was established in 1984 as one of six charter members of the American Indoor Soccer Association (AISA). In 2001, the Wave transitioned to being a successful member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Through the guidance of head coach Keith Tozer, the winningest coach in Wave and North American indoor soccer history, the Wave has won three league titles (1997-'98, '99-2000, 2000-'01), six regular season championships, and has made six championship series appearances.
