Force set to take Steam out of MISL leader

CLEVELAND, OHIO - - The Cleveland Force will return to action this Friday, January 14 when the team plays the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) leading St. Louis Steamers at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.

The action can be heard live on WHK 1420 AM or 1440 AM in Warren/Youngstown or live worldwide on the Internet at www.thesportsking.com. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:35 and is $1.00 Hot Dog Night.

Cleveland enters the contest with a record of 5-7 overall, 1-1 in the season series and 3-4 at home this season. The Force fell to the second place Philadelphia KiXX by a final score of 6-5 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at the Convo. Cleveland won the first meeting of the season on November 14 by a final of 4-2 but then fell to the Steamers by a final of 9-3 on December 17 with both games being played at the Savvis Center. The Force is currently in fifth place in the MISL standings 4.0 games behind St. Louis in first and a half game behind the Baltimore Blast and Kansas City Comets for fourth.

The Steamers comes into the game on a three game winning streak and with a record of 11-5 overall and 4-2 on the road. St. Louis defeated the Chicago Storm by a final score of 7-6 on Sunday evening at the Savvis Center. The Steamers sit atop the MISL standings and lead the KiXX by a half game in second and one game ahead of the Milwaukee Wave in third place.

Cleveland is led by forward Antonio Sutton and defender and team captain John Ball in the season series with three points in the two games. Sutton has recorded three goals while Ball has accounted for one goal and two assists. Forward Chris Handsor is second in the season series with two points on a goal and an assist.

St. Louis comes into the third game of the series led by Head Coach and forward Daryl Doran with four points. Doran has notched three goals and added one assist in the two games. University of Akron standout Mike Apple is second in the season series with three points on one goal and two assists.
