Austin Wranglers News Release

AUSTIN-The Austin Wranglers announce the signing of five players including former Texas Tech standout defensive lineman Patrice Majondo-Mwamba and former TCU wide receiver Adrian Madise. Other players signed by the Wranglers include quarterback Lang Campbell, wide receiver Jake Schifino and offensive lineman Tony Tella.

"We're excited to have signed this group of players who have excelled at their respective positions," said Glyn. "With the luxury of the new rule changes, these players transitioning from the NFL or NFL Europe will have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot and potentially have an immediate impact in the AFL."

Campbell (6-1, 210, William & Mary), the 2004 Walter Payton Award winner and Atlantic-10 Offensive Player of the Year, enters his first AFL season. As the Tribe's starting quarterback for two years, Campbell had a breakout senior season, throwing for 3,988 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent, he originally signed with the Cleveland Browns, but was released prior to 2005 regular season. With the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe for the 2006 season, Campbell started all 10 games and threw for 1,264 yards and ten touchdowns. He then returned to the Browns and participated in the 2006 training camp, but was released prior to the team's first regular season game.

Madise (5-11, 215, Texas Christian), a threat at wide receiver and on kickoff returns, is entering his first AFL season. A fifth-round selection (158th overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, he played in 11 regular season games and one playoff game as a rookie. He finished the season with two receptions for 10 yards, one rush for 10 yards, one special teams tackle and five kickoff returns for 137 yards with a long of 83. Madise also spent time on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers active roster. Attending college at TCU, he played in 22 games, finishing with 82 receptions for 1,343 yards and seven touchdowns.

Majondo-Mwamba (6-4, 300, Texas Tech), a former Red Raider defender and Republic of Congo native, he is entering his first AFL season. He spent the entire 2005 NFL season on the Denver Broncos practice squad and as a part of the NFL Europe International Development Practice Squad program with the Rhein Fire and Amsterdam Admirals. While in college at Texas Tech, Majondo-Mwamba played in 25 career games as a Red Raider, posting 33 tackles (22 solo), one sack and five tackles for a loss of 29 yards. Prior to transferring to Texas Tech for his junior season, Majondo-Mwamba played organized football for the first time at Hartnell Community College and earned JUCO Top 100 honors with 11 sacks as a sophomore at the school.

Schifino (6-1, 200, Akron), a speedy and shifty receiver, most recently with the NFL's Houston Texans, enters his first AFL season. Originally drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fifth round (151st overall) in the 2002 NFL Draft, Schifino's best season in the pro's came in 2003 with the Titans. That year he played in 13 games at receiver, while also being used on kickoff returns, recording 703 yards on 35 returns, averaging 20.1 yards per return. In college, Schifino was a four-year letterman at Akron, starting 31 of 40 career games, tallying 131 receptions for 1,986 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Tella (6-4, 305, Miami (FL)), a big offensive lineman who is native to Houston, enters his first AFL season. Starting 23 of 33 games as a Miami Hurricane offensive guard, Tella has been used at both the left and right guard positions in his career. During his senior season, he was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference honorable mention selection. As an undrafted free agent, he signed with the NFL's New York Giants and spent most of the 2006 training camp with the team.
