Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
GRAND RAPIDS - The Grand Rapids Rampage have added Pro Bowl talent to their radio broadcast team for their upcoming 10th Anniversary Season. Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Herman Moore will join radio play-by-play personality Joe Parson in the booth for 2007 Rampage home games on WBFX 101.3 FM.
"I am happy to have the opportunity to work with the Rampage and the AFL," said Moore, who played with the Lions from 1991-2001. "I can't wait to share my thoughts, passion and knowledge of the game with our listeners."
This will not be Moore's first experience behind a microphone. From 1996-98, he co-hosted a Lions radio show every Monday night in addition to appearing on local television shows on Sunday nights. Moore also graduated from the University of Virginia in 1990 with a degree in rhetoric and communication studies.
"Although this is my first attempt at live commentating," Moore added, "I am extremely excited and appreciative of this opportunity to return to two of my passions: football and broadcasting."
The four-time (1994-97) NFL Pro Bowler played 11 seasons with Detroit, where he set several receiving records. The 1991 first-round draft pick (10th overall) broke an NFL record with 123 receptions in 1995, and was the second player ever (after Jerry Rice) to record three 100-reception seasons. He leads the Lions in almost every historical receiving category including receptions (670), receiving yards (9,174) and receiving touchdowns (62).
Moore brought more than Pro Bowl-level talent to Detroit during his years in the NFL. He was very active in the community, creating his "Catch 84" Foundation, conducting summer youth football camps and serving as the Lions' spokesman for the United Way. Following the end of his NFL career in 2002, Moore remained in Detroit where he has focused on business ventures while continuing to support local charities and organizations.
"We thought that Herman would be a great choice behind the microphone," said Rick Berkey, Rampage director of broadcast. "In addition to his knowledge and experience, he was always known in his NFL days as a true professional on and off the field."
