RIVERA'S WALK-OFF SLAM LIFTS DASH
Thanks to a walk-off grand slam from Laz Rivera, Winston-Salem defeated the Buies Creek Astros 12-10 in 10 innings on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark. Going into the bottom of the 10th inning, the Dash were down 10-8. After JJ Muno was placed on second to begin the inning, Yeyson Yrizarri singled and Yermin Mercedes was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Then, with two outs, Rivera crushed a 1-0 pitch from right-hander Colin McKee into the Foothills Brewpen for a grand slam to give the Dash the victory. Meanwhile, Daniel Gonzalez, who is listed as one of two active catchers on the Dash's roster, earned the victory by striking out one in a two-run top of the 10th inning.
THIRD OF ITS KIND
Rivera's walk-off grand slam marked the third of its kind at BB&T Ballpark (2010-present). Prior to Monday, the last walk-off grand slam occurred on July 10, 2017, when Zack Collins smacked one as part of an 8-4 victory over the Carolina Mudcats in 11 innings. The first one to occur at the downtown facility was when Joey DeMichele crushed a walk-off grand slam on August 24 against Myrtle Beach.
2018 IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY
With 58 wins this season, Winston-Salem has already surpassed its win total from both 2016 and 2017. Meanwhile, Dash are atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including runs (494), doubles (193), triples (29), hits (866), RBIs (467) and slugging percentage (.421). The Dash are second in the circuit in home runs (76) and second in on-base percentage (.342). On the mound, the Dash are fourth in ERA (3.68).

FIRST A YANKEE, NOW A WHITE SOX
After an eventful, yet tough season in 2017, Dash outfielder Blake Rutherford has shined in 2018. The 21-year-old is posting an impressive .300/.345/.459 batting line with six homers, 18 doubles, six triples and a team-best 63 RBIs in 77 games played. Rutherford was traded over to the White Sox from the Yankees in July of 2017 after being selected as a first-round pick by New York in 2016. The California native hit just .213 in 30 games played with the Low-A Kannapolis Intimidators after the trade. However, Rutherford has been consistent with the Dash, especially as of late, as Rutherford is batting .333 in the second half.
A NEW SET OF SHEETS
Sheets has been in a grove in the second half of the season. Through 25 games after the All-Star Break, Sheets is batting .376 (38-for-101) with 10 doubles, two homers and 16 RBIs. A former second-round pick by the White Sox out of Wake Forest University, Sheets' 38 hits since June 21 are tied for third-most in all of Minor League Baseball. Prior to joining the White Sox organization, Sheets was a three-year star at Wake, registering 21 homers and 84 RBIs in his final season in 2017.
PARKE IT LIKE IT'S HOT
Dash left-hander John Parke will get the start in the series opener for the Mudcats on Wednesday. Last time out, Parke tossed seven innings and allowed just four runs in a victory over the Salem Red Sox on July 12. The southpaw was a 21st-round pick in 2017 by the White Sox out of the University of South Carolina. More information is available on page 3.
