SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Santa Cruz Warriors (15-12) defeated the Salt Lake City Stars (7-20) 123-97 on Friday at Lifetime Activities Center - Bruin Arena. The Warriors broke an all-time franchise record by shooting 61% from beyond-the-arc to go with six Warriors scoring in double-figures
The Warriors were paced by LaDontae Henton who led all scorers with 22 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds, going 6-of-10 from three. Scott Wood contributed 21 points, also going 6-of-8 from three. James Southerland recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, netting five three-pointers of his own. Phil Pressey also notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists to go with 5 rebounds.
Jermaine Taylor would finish with 21 points to lead Salt Lake City's effort. In total, the Stars had five players in double-figures. Joel Bolomboy, on assignment from the Jazz, finished with his 10th double-double in a Stars uniform with 17 points and 16 rebounds.
The Warriors got off to a hot start to lead the Stars 25-11 by the 5:09 mark in the opening frame. The Stars would respond with a 17-3 run, tying the game at 28 points apiece with 48.8 seconds remaining in the quarter. James Southerland scored 10 of his 18 points in the first quarter, making all three of his attempts from beyond-the-arc.
Santa Cruz shot 54.2% and limited Salt Lake City to 35% in the second frame, outscoring the hosts 32-22 to carry an eleven-point lead into the break.
The Warriors continued to build momentum through the beginning of the second half, outscoring the Stars 35-22 in the third quarter to lead by as many as 28 points. Despite Salt Lake City's attempted comebacks, the hosts would not come within single-digits of the Warriors for the remainder of the game.
Santa Cruz would extend their lead to as many as 30 points in the final frame.
